About Innisfree Farms
Innisfree Farms is a 70-acre farm with four different amazing house rentals. This West Virginia farm is an amazing place to stay for a weekend communing with nature. It’s super quiet, yet located only 70 min from Pittsburgh and 2 hours from Columbus making it perfect for a quick getaway.
Innisfree Farms offers four places to stay. From largest to smallest, they are the Luxury Estate Home, the Cabin on the Lake, the Lost Tiny House, and the Oculus Tiny House. Large groups are encouraged to rent out as many properties as make sense for their party. I think this is a great idea – nothing ruins a family vacation more than lack of personal space!
All rentals on the property allow pets, which was great for us! We love traveling with our dog, Tom, but often find it hard to find accommodation that allows dogs.

See the table below for more information about each location!

Oculus Tiny House Review
We stayed in the Oculus at Innisfree for our weekend getaway. It is a really lovely yet really tiny house located first along the farm driveway. This was the first tiny house I’ve stayed at that REALLY deserved its tiny name.
The Oculus is literally one room, with a Murphy bed attached to the wall. When the bed is down, it takes up almost the entire space. If you love to see what can be done in a living area with not a lot of space, this is the rental for you.

I loved staying here. One reason I’ve switched to staying at hotels recently is because Airbnbs can be such a crapshoot, even when they have super high ratings. Hotels care about small details and I like being able to request something if the room isn’t what was promised. Innisfree Farms cared about the small details and the owners clearly took a lot of pride in their rentals. Bonus points to the owners for being very literary (the farm is named from a Yeats poem) and the more you look, the more literary details you find on the property. It was like a bookworm’s Easter egg hunt!
Even though it was a very small space, the Oculus was very comfortable. The water pressure was amazing (always a crapshoot at rural rentals), the bed was firm but fine, and the mini fridge/freezer worked perfectly. It had exactly what we needed and nothing more.
I highly recommend staying at the Oculus at Innisfree.
Oculus Tiny House: Pros and Cons
While we loved our weekend at Innisfree, staying in the Oculus wouldn’t be for everyone! Check out my list of pros and cons of the Oculus.
| Pros | Cons |
| Outdoor space was awesome | …weather very much impacted our ability to use it |
| Great shower pressure | Nowhere to relax unless we put the bed down |
| Picture window was amazing to look out | Would not recommend for more than 2 people and 1 dog (even though it says you can bring a child or 2 dogs) |
| Overall a great use of a very small space and so adorable! |
If we were to stay again, I would probably rent the Lost Tiny House (and not just because it has a JRR Tolkien quote on the side). The one main downside for us in the Oculus was that we had a lot of rain during our stay. This meant we didn’t really have anywhere to relax without putting the bed down, which then we had to put up every time we wanted to cook food. I love a small space, but I think our stay in the Oculus made me realize I prefer separate day and night time relaxing spaces.
Overall, I still had a super relaxing weekend and am very glad we stayed here!

What to Do Near Innisfree Farms
While you could spend all day at the farm, there’s also a lot to do in the area!
Go for a Hike
Innisfree Farms has some trails located on the property, but if you’d like to head further afield, there are multiple options around.
Oglebay Park
Oglebay is the closest park at approximately 10 minutes away. There are some shorter hiking trails here – all trails on AllTrails are under 2 miles long. We skipped this park as we wanted a longer hike, but it looks like a great place to visit for a short walk with kids.
If you want to make sure you never lose a route, upgrade to AllTrails+. Then you can download trail maps to stay on trail even when you don't have service!
Tomlinson Run State Park, WV
Tomlinson Run, located approximately an hour north of the farm, is an outdoor lover’s haven. We tackled the ~5 mile park loop, which was an awesome tour of this beautiful park. Most of the trail is single track and it was slightly challenging at times. This park also has camping, picnic areas, and boat rentals and was absolutely worth the drive.
Salt Fork State Park, Ohio
Salt Fork State Park, located an hour west of the cabin, is a lovely Ohio state park. There are a ton of trail options for all levels of hiker. The park also offers a golf course, a dog park, and multiple playgrounds.
Get BBQ at Hangover BBQ
I would drive 70 minutes one way just to eat this BBQ. It was incredible. I had the pulled pork sandwich with spicy mustard BBQ sauce with a side of Mac & cheese and I highly recommend. My husband had the two meat platter with ribs and brisket, with a side of coleslaw and beans. The ribs fell right off the bone. We were super glad we read the guest book for these recommendations!

I highly recommend Innisfree Farms for an amazing weekend getaway!
