Hunt Farm Trail Review

At 6.6 miles, Hunt Farm is one of the longer trails on the challenge. Unlike most of the trails, this route is towpath only (gravel/dirt, not cement). I tacked this one in early March, after recent snowmelt. While it was slightly muddy because of this, I was comfortable running in sneakers without Yaktrax (often a requirement for CVNP!).

The scenery isn’t spectacular but it wasn’t boring like some out-and-back routes. The last mile or so was part of the Deep Quarry trail, which ran along a lovely river. There were two abandoned locks and multiple bridges to cross on this one.

I liked that I didn’t have to check the AllTrails app regularly, since it was a super straightforward out-and-back. On a sunny 30 degree day, the trail was seeing usage but wasn’t crowded. This would be a perfect route for a flat run that’s more interesting than running around your neighborhood!

This trail is definitely family-friendly for families with small children or members with mobility issues, as the footing is very easy. Since it’s an out and back, you can go as far as you need before turning around.

Hunt Farm Trail Variations

If you wanted to add some spice into the route, you could run up onto the trail part of Deep Quarry instead of running to the Lock 29 trailhead. Alternatively, to make this route longer, you could add in the Lock 29 trail out and back which would put you around 11 miles on all towpath.
